WALLOWA RIVER FISHING REPORT EARLY JUNE 2026

The river still high (600 cfs) but fishable/floatable. It is mostly a nymph scene, but with some caddis and stonefly hatches - which may allow you to use a large foam stonefly for your indicator. A guide friend who floated the river this past week reported his clients caught lots of bows - mostly in the 10" to 13" range.

AND ANOTHER FRIEND, an expert euro nymph fisher, showed me a series of pictures of the biggest Wallowa trout I have seen (all 25" to 30" hogs weighing upwards of 4 + lbs). I would have thought they were pictures of Alaskan trout, but I recognized the various Wallowa River background views. The key was fishing deep water right on the bottom - below where other fishers could get their fly.
